“This program will cover contemporary issues in estate planning including private trust companies, self-settled spendthrift trusts, and certain aspects of the new federal tax act.Bart Mowry, a partner with Maupin, Cox & Leroy in Reno, Nevada, will address Nevada private trust companies. Scott Swain, a partner with McDonald Carano in Las Vegas, Nevada, will address Nevada self-settled spendthrift trusts. Christopher Reimer, a partner with Long Reimer Winegar Beppler in Jackson, Wyoming, will address Wyoming private trust companies and self-settled spendthrift trusts. In addition, Brent Nelson, a partner with Snell & Wilmer in Tucson, will address certain aspects of the new tax act. Prescott Pohl, a partner with Snell & Wilmer in Phoenix, will moderate. All of Messrs. Mowry, Pohl, Reimer and Swain are Fellows in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.
This will be a high-level program that should be enormously helpful to the Arizona estate planning bar.Specific issues that will be covered include:
Private Trust Companies: what are they, why are they increasingly popular, when do they make sense, and why Nevada and Wyoming are leading jurisdictions for their creation.
Self-Settled Spendthrift Trusts: you may know what they are and that they cannot be created under Arizona law, but why use them, what are the current issues, and what are the benefits of creating them in Nevada or Wyoming
Legislation: we’ll cover certain particularly interesting aspects of the new tax act.”
